A Touch Screen Mobile Revolution?

Mobile phones continue to develop at breakneck speed and this rapid pace of innovation shows little sign of abating.

We now have phones that are true multi-media devices capable of taking pictures, video, accessing the web, email, microsoft office applications.  They play music, act as sat nav devices, global positioning systems, gaming devices and more.

In the future we can also expect them to act as TV’s once the appropriate standards have evolved.  In fact, in some asian countries, this is already possible.

So what is the next leap?  With so much power and so many choices the focus is on ease of use and particularly the advance of touchscreen mobile devices.

Apple has paved the way here and easily produces the best touch screen mobile phone, but whilst it is ahead here it falls way behind in terms of what the latest phones such as the Samsung innov8 can offer in terms of a rich multi-media experience.

Touchscreens will no dobut continue to evolve and by this time next year I would expect to see the likes of Samsung, LG, Nokia & Sony launching devices that rival the iphones touchscreen interface and navigation software.  Apple will not be getting its own way in this market quite so long as it enjoyed with the ubiquitous iPod.

At the moment fans of touchscreen mobiles are poorly served.  The iPhone handsdown has the best touchscreen but it is let down by a poor camera and less than exceptional 3G performance.

It’s hard to pinpoint the iPhones closest rival but there are a number of devices on offer from LG, Samsung, HTC and others that are worthy competitiors.  When the next generation of touchscreen mobile phones are launched Apple may truly have to sit up and take notice.
